Naples, 1959. Pure mathematics professor Renato Caccioppoli is a tormented and disillusioned man. Recently discharged from the psychiatric hospital, left by his wife, and feeling increasingly isolated within the university and the Italian Communist Party (he's also Bakunin's grandson), he lives his last days with painful detachment.
