Henry Christian Haarstick,
pioneer in the Mississippi River barge transportation after the American Civil War. He bought stock in the Mississippi Valley Transportation Company the only considerable barge line on the river & eventually became the director the vice-president & finally the general manager of the firm. The company was later consolidated with the St. Louis & New Orleans Transportation Company & Haarstick headed the board of directors. After his retirement he became president of the St. Louis Merchant's Exchange & served as vice-president of the St. Louis Union Trust Company
